About the Oil: This Royal Hawaiian sandalwood essential oil is almost magical. It offers an exceptional level of alpha and beta santanols, plus the most divinely sweet, long-lasting aroma we’ve ever experienced. Not to be missed. This aged* version can be likened to nectar with an exquisite aromatic; our favorite of all sandalwood varieties! This particular species of Santalum paniculatum is only found on the Big Island of Hawaii and is also known as mountain sandalwood.

When we visited the farm where we source this oil, we were supremely impressed by the decision to only harvest from the trees that had already run their life course. Therefore each year's harvest is dependent on how many trees have surrendered.

This essential oil is steam distilled from the heartwood of sandalwood trees grown on a family-owned plantation. The rare and precious Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood is the most deeply sweet of the sandalwood varieties in our opinion, and perhaps the most feminine. Its character in this regard is truly unmatched. Sandalwood is used extensively in perfumery as a base note and fixative.

Aroma:  Sweet, deep caramel-like, and woody. The aroma is sedative.

OTHER SPECIES:
There are many varieties of sandalwood that come from the trees grown in India, New Caledonia, and Australia. The Indian sandalwood has the most 'woody' notes.  New Caledonian sandalwood offers a sweet and woody aroma, somewhere between the Indian 'woody' and the Royal Hawaiian 'sweet'; the Australian variety has a woody, balsamic, deep, and complex aroma, making it a top choice for connoisseurs.
