About the Oil: The mysterious wild frankincense sacra! Our special-aged oil is divinely delicious. There must be something to it, as universities around the world have considered it important enough to spend significant sums on investigating its medicinal effects. The highest quality of frankincense is found in Oman.

This particular species, also called Sacred Frankincense, is regarded as having a superior phytochemical profile, as well as higher therapeutic value when compared to other steam or hydro distilled frankincense oils. When distilled using the same process, Frankincense sacra will contain greater amounts of aromatic terpenes, di- and sesqui-terpenes ~ though it is important to consider the distillate.

Our proprietary aging process* helps bring out the best offering of its sweet and distinct aroma.

Aroma: A fine warm, yet crisp aroma, with wood and citrus notes. 

OTHER SPECIES
A great many varieties of the essential oil are available, from 3 different species (sacra, carterii, Serrata) and two distillation technologies (steam & CO2). The most popular botanical variety is Boswellia carterii, the species with the greatest amount of scientific research backing its medicinal use. The aroma is lovely, with fruity and woody notes combining to make a very uplifting scent. These days, Boswellia extracts have found their way into much common over-the-counter pain relieving and anti-inflammatory preparations for joint and muscular pain. 

Not to be overlooked, the aromatherapy aspect of the essential oil is as impressive as the rest of its uses. The aroma of the carterii species has uplifting citrus and woody notes and is considered an excellent antidepressant. That of the Serrata is grounding and calming, lending itself to meditative use and deep introspection.
